Today, I had my very first "1st birthday cake smash session". You think it would be easy, right? Sit a hungry baby in front of a yummy, brightly colored cake & click away, as they munch it down, bite-by-bite. Well, photographers make it look *so* easy, when really, it's not. { I brought my 10 month old son along with me to have a mini-play date, as I setup the backdrop and prep the cake. Mr. T & my son had such a good time together and actually played very fair and nice with each other. I had a proud mama moment. } Here are some tips I have coming out of my very first experience with this type of portrait session... First: Make sure the icing is room temperature. Cold icing = uninterested 1 year old. They can't squish it between their fingers and have a good time with it. Leave out of fridge for at least 2 hours. Second: Since this is usually a toddler's first experience with something so amazingly overwhelming, so sometimes mom or dad has to join in and help out a little...or a lot... Third: Two words: THROWAWAY TABLECLOTHS!! Fourth: Make sure to feed the kiddo about an hour before hand, so they are hungry enough to be interested in eating, but not too hungry, as to throw a fit. Fifth (& final): Have fun, relax, and let the birthday boy/girl do their thing! :) I hope you enjoy Mr. Talon's cake smash as much as I did. Great first experience! A BIG thank you to 'Cakes By Cami' for supplying the delicious huge cupcake. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cakes-By-Cami/152676578110232
